The EJI Texas Prison Abuse Project provides raw and visceral primary, self-reported data on physical assault, sexual violence, and extortion within prisons in the state of Texas. The data is derived from substantive responses from the 200 randomly selected sample of offenders (100 men and 100 women) who responded to a three-question survey that was mailed to the entire sample population on November 1, 2017. The last response was received in May of 2018.
The 10.9 percent response rate was less than hypothesized, however; the level of reported abuse–at 61.9 percent–was higher than expected. Below you find the initials of the participants to preserve their identity. Any personally identifiable information in the data provided has been redacted, but it is also noted where such action is taken. All spelling and grammar appears as originally conveyed.
